The Harvard Crimson Business Board is unlike any other extracurricular organization on Harvard’s campus, as we are founded on three main pillars: hard work, growth, and community. At The Crimson, we offer incoming associates the opportunity to integrate themselves into a real business, where individuals make real business decisions to maintain financial independence for one of the nation’s oldest collegiate newspapers. To accomplish this, however, dedication to being a team player is paramount. From executing pitch sprints for special editions to putting on journalism conferences in Shanghai or creating marketing materials for our clients, we believe that each associate and manager has a meaningful role to play that requires commitment and initiative.

The business board is made up of three departments: advertising, programs, and strategy. Advertising associates spend the majority of their time determining target audiences that align with the value proposition of our advertising products, reaching out and negotiating with real companies, and seeing through the delivery of their campaigns. Programs associates, over the course of the fiscal year, execute ten programs, ranging from essay competitions to summer journalism camps. They are responsible for creating content, strategizing outreach processes, maintaining partner relations, and signing sponsorships as an additional source of revenue. Lastly, the strategy department consists of both operational and creative strategy. These associates create the branding and marketing materials for our clients and The Crimson Brand Studio suite, while simultaneously ideating new revenue streams to ensure the sustainability of our business model.

Members who invest their time into the business board walk away with skill sets that equip them for the professional world. We pride ourselves on the ability to support all associates in hopes that they will develop a unique capacity to solve problems and think critically while bettering those around them. This has been the case as many of our associates have gone on to have successful careers in finance, consulting, tech, policy, and more.

Most importantly, once accepted to the business board, all associates are welcomed into a diverse community that lasts far past their time at Harvard. The people you meet at The Crimson will undoubtedly be some of the warmest, smartest, and funniest individuals you come across during your time at Harvard. While we prioritize the mission to maintain financial independence, we state confidently that being a part of the business board makes your college experience significantly more memorable.
