I first began partnering with the Harvard Crimson in the summer of 2019 after being approached by their marketing department to sponsor the, “Ten Successful Harvard Application Essays” blog. As an admission essay counselor based in the San Francisco Bay Area, I had for years relied on an informal referral network to maintain a healthy flow of clientele. Working as a lone sole-proprietor with only so many hours to offer local clients, I was admittedly skeptical as to whether expanding my online presence made sense for my business. At the same time, it was obvious that the Crimson’s relevance to my particular trade made it a compelling option for expanding into markets unreachable by word-of-mouth alone. I decided to give it a go.

Designing the advertisement with the Crimson’s marketing team was a breeze. I received constructive marketing feedback and was given full agency over how the final proof looked. The real test, however, was when the post went live. Not only did my web traffic spike, but I began receiving a flow of leads from all over the world. I was soon structuring my workflow to include clients overseas and clients in New York and Boston before beginning my local work here in Silicon Valley. Those seeking insight into admissions view Harvard as a trusted authority, making it an ideal partnership for my own tailored one-on-one approach.
